Our History

Colleyville Presbyterian Church began as Irving Presbyterian Church in 1973.  In 1976 the young congregation called its first pastor, Dale Smith.

In God’s providence as the young congregation looked for a place to purchase land, build, minister, and grow the decision was made to locate in Colleyville area.  The congregation purchased four acres on Cheek Sparger Road in 1978 and proceeded to construct, on Saturdays, its first building.  The first building was completed a year later in August of 1979. Today it serves as the office building for Colleyville Presbyterian Church.

Pastor Smith brought with him a vision for Christian education. As a consequence the congregation committed itself to establishing a Christian day school as part of its ministry to congregation and community. Covenant Christian Academy was thus begun in September of 1979 with six students in Mrs. Shepherd’s five-year-old kindergarten class. Though the church and school are no longer officially connected, they are happy neighbors with one another on Cheek Sparger Road. Covenant Christian Academy is now a leading, classical college preparatory school in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with over 700 students.

In the mid 1980s the current sanctuary building, situated to the east of the initial building, was constructed. That building was extensively remodeled in 2003 with the sanctuary and nurseries being enlarged and a foyer added.

In March of 2014, Pastor Dale Smith officially retired as senior pastor of Colleyville Presbyterian Church. Colleyville’s second senior pastor, Josh Anderson, began his ministry in August of 2014.
